"Hiroshima Mon Amour" (1959, Dir: Alain Resnais)

A beautiful, beautiful film. Lost in Translation has nothing on this.

An interesting note: in An Affair of Love, Nathalie Baye and Sergi Lopez's characters were revealed in the credits to be named "Elle" and "Lui" - which are Emmanuelle Riva's and Eiji Okada's characters' names in this film.

Grade: A

I just saw this one and loved it as well. I'm not sure I completely understood it, but I found the whole movie exhilarating. Plus, Riva's performance is one of the most haunting things I've ever seen.

Did Coppola base Lost in Translation on this?

It seems like she might have.

I found the first part of the film amazing, and the very ending of the film great, the middle bit with the German soldier's story confused and bored me a bit, hence no A+ rating. But the documentary-essay thing at the beginning was breathtaking as was the walk through the city at the end.
